Beds for Dogs Don't Have to Be Boring

By Andrew Murray

Until the past few years, unusual and custom dog beds were unheard of. It was simply the norm that dogs would sleep on a mat, the couch, the owner's bed or a rug, and didn't need anything fancy. But as dogs have become more and more beloved over the years, and in many cases, rather more pampered, beds for dogs have also grown into items that dog owners have taken a shine to. The result of this has been the creation of dog beds that are fancy or unusual.

Many people looking for very special beds for dogs often decide on something like a canopy bed. Some look much like the traditional canopy frames that humans use, while others take on a more exotic tone. For example, Glamour Dog (www.glamourdog.com) sells what are essentially round, canopied tents, with roofs that rise to a pointed central spire. These luxury dog beds bring to mind something like a Sultan's tent, and are richly decorated with jewels or feathers or fur.

But taking a more formal route in distinctive dog beds, one very interesting kind is the Murphy bed. This is the type of bed that is folded up against the wall during the day, showing just a decorative wooden cabinet. But at night, the hidden mattress and bedding is lowered to the floor. This type of dog furniture can be both functional and ornamental. It conserves space in the day, and can also be styled to go with the other furniture in the room. It becomes a true component of the decor.

You can find beds for dogs in all sorts of unusual shapes. If you want your dog to sleep in a replica of a Mercedes Benz, you can do that. It can lounge in a gazebo with a pillow for a floor. It can sleep in hammocks, cots, spaceships, elegant French divans, anything you want. Manufacturers and websites offer dog beds for sale in any sort of design you can conceive. And if they don't have the type of design you want, some places will follow your specifications and create it for you. The sky is the really limit when it comes to creative bed ideas for your canine buddy.

As you can see, beds for dogs can be as utilitarian or as elaborate as you want them to be. In most cases, the dog itself won't really care, unless it's a choice between a simple mat on the floor or a memory foam mattress that gives aching joints a bit of relief.

Breeding chickens in your backyard is an stimulating as well as unique activity, as many other people have realized what a massive way of saving money this is.

The first thing you need to do to prepare for the chickens is to get a coop for them, or make your own using the easy chicken coop plans available. These are wooden structures that will protect your chickens from predators and harsh climates, hence allowing them to feel safe and comfortable. Moreover, you will be able to involve yourself in the design process, and add little things which will personalize your coop, making it absolutely perfect for you and your chickens.

When seeking the perfect easy chicken coop plans, you must take a few elements into consideration. Firstly, you must determine the amount of chickens you will maintain. A small amount is advisable for a starter, which will need a small sized or even portable coop, and then later you can increase the number and eventually upgrade to a larger coop once you have gained some experience. The vantages of making portable coops are unlimited as they offer a lot of possibilities.

They are easy to build; they cost much less and then can be moved around and placed wherever you please. Six to eight birds will need a medium sized coop and over ten birds will need a proper large chicken coop along with a chicken run.

This decision also depends on the amount of money you are willing to invest. If you want to keep this investment small initially, then you should get a small number of chickens along with a small coop. If you have over 300 dollars, then you can also get a medium sized or large coop along with a run as well. Therefore, when looking for the perfect easy chicken coop plans, keep these elements in mind, and you will have your own chicken coop with no trouble at all.

The plan you choose must be easily understandable by you, so go through it properly before you decide to begin construction. Also, buy all the materials beforehand so that you dont have to make multiple visits to the home improvement shop. Once you have the plan, you are ready to construct your own coop, just remember to give each chicken a minimum of 4 square feet of space!

Health Insurance Quotes Online - Investigate Before You Buy

By John Bellafonte

While health care insurance is often the subject of public debate, all people need access to health care insurance that provides them with adequate coverage. Too many people either have no insurance or not enough coverage. Many people are unaware that they could obtain excellent health care coverage by getting health insurance quotes online. Before making a final decision, potential customers should do research to determine the best policies available to them.

Obtaining an online quote is a good way for customers to access insurance information from a variety of sources at one time. Many people get frustrated with the insurance industry because they do not know how to get the correct information. Online quotes give potential customers extensive information about specific insurance policies and the complete cost of the policies. This allows customers to find the best coverage for their needs and budget.

Once the health insurance quote online is received, you will want to sit down and thoroughly evaluate each one. First, you will want to consider the actual coverage in the event of an emergency or hospitalization. Do they cover one hundred percent of the costs or not? Obviously, the higher the percentage and the better coverage it is for you and your family. Consider the current and potential health needs of your family before choosing the lowest amount of coverage as one never knows when the need for hospitalization may arrive.

Working with an insurance company to find the most affordable deductible is very important. Customers often make the mistake of choosing the policy with the lowest deductible which helps lower their monthly premiums. However, they fail to consider that the deductible will cause a financial strain in the event of a serious medical condition or emergency requiring hospitalization. The last thing a customer with a sick family needs to worry about is how the treatment is going to be paid for, so be sure to choose a policy with a deductible that fits your budget but will not leave you concerned in an emergency.

Another factor in making the right decision for your health insurance coverage is the cost of co-payments that are due at the time of the service provided. Many insurance companies will offer lower co-payments, but the premiums will be higher. Always choose a policy that offers you co-payments that are affordable but not so low that you can't afford the monthly premiums, as it won't do you any good if you still can't afford to go to the doctors when necessary.

Often, the best policy for the family requires higher monthly premiums though this is not ideal. Especially for situations that require long term care or emergency hospitalizations, families should carefully evaluate all aspects of a policy including monthly premiums and co-payments. Carefully considering the financial impact of a policy will help customers determine which products are the most affordable policy with the best benefits.

Shopping online gives customer's access to various policies with only a few clicks of a mouse. Working online allows customers to find answers to any questions or concerns regarding a potential policy. Receiving health insurance quotes online can help any family find a policy that is both affordable and will adequately cover all members even in the face of a serious health concern.

Every family needs access to good health insurance and researching policies online helps customers discover they have many options. No customer should be forced to settle for a policy that does not fully meet their needs. Compare a variety of policies to determine the best choice that provides the most coverage for the most affordable price. Online shoppers can rest assured that all their questions will be answered without having to guess about the coverage they are receiving.

Owning a Dog: Turning Challenges into Joys

By Michelle Robert

I have had dogs in my life for over 35 years, and in that time, have definitely experienced all the ups and downs that go along with having a pet. Despite the challenges that have come along, there is no question in my mind that dogs are truly "man's best friend". It's just that with some, we have to work a bit harder to cultivate that friendship!

My current dog in an eight year old miniature schnauzer who, while a very smart and affectionate little guy, was also a bit challenging in his behavior when he first came to live with us. Not long after his arrival, we discovered that:

1. Growled and jumped on anyone who came to visit, and barked at absolutely everything he saw.

2. Completely despised his monthly visit to the groomers to be clipped.

What could we do? We spoke with our veterinarian and did some additional research to discover some strategies and techniques to help train him...and us as well. This article will share some of the things we learned.

1. It took a while to help him with the growling/jumping/barking problem because, as a good little schnauzer it was very important to him to protect his territory. Unfortunately, him being territorial, meant he was scaring all of our friends and neighbors. So we tried tons of training methods to teach him better manners: reward systems, squirting water, coins in a can, newspapers, you name it, we probably tried it. Nothing really worked. So we discussed the problem with our vet who suggested a remote training collar. Not really knowing anything about how they worked, we did more research and finally decided to try the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer. Perhaps the thing we liked the best about it was that it had 9 different stimulation levels so that we had a lot of flexibility in controlling the settings, so that we could always give the least amount of stimulation that would be effective. In addition there is a tone-only training option that provides even more versatility. We also decided to get the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer, 300 yds. which allows for training within a 300 yard range. What was the best thing about the Innotek Ultrasmart? It worked. In no time at all, our little dog learned how to not scare our guests, and we were able to have visitors again!

2. Now the problem of our dog being stressed by going to the groomers was really more an issue of training us as opposed to him. We decided that by learning to clip him each month at home, we could be done with the process much quicker, and he would be more comfortable, and happier as a result. So we invested in the Oster A5 Turbo Clipper, and have to honestly say that doing so has made such a difference in his life...and ours. We chose these clippers because Oster has a reputation for lasting forever, and we didn't want to buy new ones each year. Plus, the reviews on them stated that they did a quiet, smooth, and quick job, which was just what we wanted. The Oster A5 Turbo Clipper has worked out great for us, with the only slight glitch being that the clippers can get warm, but we easily solved this by cleaning and changing the blades, and using Oster Kool Lube. They are really very easy to use, the challenge for us was just learning to get the cut right! But happily, all the challenges in grooming our little guy each month have completely vanished, and the process is now actually smooth and stress-free for all of us.

Having a dog can, and should be a joy, but it often takes a little work to get to that point. In our case, we had a little help from the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer, and the Oster A5 Turbo Clipper. But the investment and time we took to use these tools to help make life with our dog better for us and for him have been so worthwhile. The reward has been a merry, little schnauzer whose intelligence, loving nature, and desire to please truly make him our best friend!

Maintaining Medical Insurance After A Job Loss

By Ethan Kalvin

If you have just been advised that you are going to be laid off and received 30 days notice, it is time to take action. There are many things you must do when this happens. You will need to immediately update your resume' because your ultimate goal will be to find another job. You will need to obtain details about filing for unemployment insurance so that you will be receiving regular checks from the government once your paid salary is discontinued.

You should also take a look at your insurance benefits and decide what coverage you will still require. If you are currently covered through your employer than you will need to look into extending this coverage or replacing it. Now is the time to start exploring all your options.

When you are let go from your place of employment, your health insurance may be continued through a government-sponsored program know as C.O.B.R.A. (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act). It has been available to the unemployed for many years;though the cost has always been unmanageable for many. When you lose your employment, thus you income, you also become responsible for the total cost of your health insurance (talk about bad timing). Today, however our Government has offered to pay 65% of the premiums for C.O.B.R.A. insurance for a specific period of time in the hopes that a person would find new employment during that time.

The government has considered an extension of this subsidy, yet many of the unemployed are not certain of where they stand at this time. They are aware that the extension has been granted, yet they still feel that they much hustle to find affordable health insurance for themselves and their family.

Affordable health insurance is the goal of our government today. They have yet, however, to devise a plan to provide this to the average citizen. Until such time as we actually do have affordable health insurance available, it will be necessary that every individual investigate his options and obtain the best possible policy for himself and his family.

Dog Training At Home

By Adrian Logan

In the past, nearly every dog owner relied on home dog training to get their dog to obey and perform tricks. This was in the days before obedience classes were popular, or even available.

If you desired to have a well behaved dog, you have really had no choice but have the patience, willpower, and desire to do spend time teaching Fido at home. Many people learned how to train their dogs from their parents who had owned dogs. Others refers to books to train their dogs.

You can either train your dog through dog obedience classes or conduct home dog training just as your ancestors did. If you are low in budget, conducting home training is a better choice.

Dogs are easy to train. You just need to use a mixture of consistency, praise, and treats. Give them enough of those, and they'll be doing whatever you want in no time. They will obey you and perform nice tricks to impress your friends.

One of the best method to train your dog is to model the behavior you want from him. For example, if you want him to sit on command, then gently place him in a sitting position while saying 'sit' in a firm tone.Remember to look into your dog's eyes too while conducting this training.

Do this over and over, until finally, just say "sit" to him and see what he does. If he sits on his own, give him a treat and lots of praise for a job well done. If he doesn't sit, then go back to modeling the sitting and the command until he learns it.

Some dogs can learn the tricks quite fast while some take a bit more time. But the good things is they will get it one day.

Be sure to keep praising and giving treats for the first several times your dog does the right thing on command. This is important. After a while, you can forego the treats but continue to praise your dog. Your dog need to know whether are you happy with him.
